Doi Suthep's attraction is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep - a Buddhist temple on the 1,050 metre hillside. For devout Buddhists, the temple is a royal temple of the first grade, built by King Kuena of Chiang Mai in 1383 to house a relic of the Buddha.
Bhubing Palace (Phu Ping) is 4 km further up the mountain. The palace is not open to the public, but the beautiful gardens are open on Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays, unless the Royal Family is in residence (usually only in winter).
